2. Image of the oldest map of the world. There is no ocean, but an uninhabitable area. The maps face east, in the direction where the sun rises and where paradise should be. From the eighth century to 1200, 330 Mapae Mundihave now been found. This card is also one of the most common from 1200 to 1500. These world maps were therefore copied, adapted and commented since centuries in the scriptoria of monasteries. Often there is no clear link between text and illustration.
